The colour accuracy of DLP Cinema DMDs in HUDs
The first DLP chipset engineered and qualified for automotive HUD (Head-Up Display) applications has been introduced by Texas Instruments. Combining the imaging qualities of DLP technology with automotive reliability, the chipset enables HUDs with the industry's widest FOV up to 12°. It also enables high brightness, colour and contrast levels and provides manufacturers with a scalable platform.
Smart mobility test bed to accelerate V2X communications
NXP Semiconductors has announced that it signed an agreement with Singapore’s Nanyang Technology University (NTU) to establish a living, real-world smart mobility test bed on the NTU campus. Supported by Singapore Economic Development Board, the joint initiative paves the way for Singapore’s ‘Smart Mobility 2030’ vision, making the city-state a global innovation hub for intelligent transport systems. It is also an importan...
Analogue video decoder generates 360° surround image
Designed to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians, a four-channel analogue video decoder with a built-in analogue video encoder, has been released by Intersil. The TW9984, which replaces up to nine discrete components with a single chip, generates 360° surround images for ADAS.
Tool simplifies multi-sensor application development
A tool for developing multi-sensor applications, vADASdeveloper, has been introduced by Vector Informatik. Having been adopted by BASELABS earlier this year, developers of ADASs and ECUs for automated driving can benefit from a comprehensive solution for data fusion and environment perception.
Blind spot ADAS is available below premium segment
A radar sensor system, which monitors the blind spot in the car’s rear section, has been developed by Infineon Technologies and German automotive supplier, Hella. The radar scan detects moving objects even in poor weather and independent of the direction and speed of their motion. For precision, the system features antennas, which, for example, warn drivers of vehicles coming from behind when changing lanes.
In-vehicle computer provides vehicle safety control
An in-vehicle computer, powered by the 1.91GHz Intel Atom quad-core E3845 SoC, has been introduced by ARBOR Technology. Providing security, communication and energy control, the ARTS-1450 is suitable for in-vehicle surveillance and fleet management in police cars, buses, ambulances and trucks, among others.
OpenCL ADAS development environment addresses safety concerns
With today’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), the “self-driving car” concept has captured the world’s imagination. But the enormous opportunities presented come with significant challenges to be solved. Freescale aims to address two critical speed bumps on the path toward autonomous driving - the lack of open standards for ADAS system development, and the debatable premise that consumer-focused silicon chips are ...
Clarion supplies Porsche with 360° camera system
Clarion has announced that it will supply Porsche with its 360° camera system for the company’s Panamera four-door sports sedan range. The companies have collaborated in the development of the camera, which will be offered as a factory-installed option for the 2014 model onwards.
Audi chooses Altera SOC FPGAs for driver assistance
Altera has announced that its SoC FPGAs have been selected for use in Audi’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) targeted for mass production. Audi and Austrian high-tech company TTTech chose the Altera Cyclone V SoC FPGA for its ability to increase system performance and enable the differentiated features Audi requires for piloted driving and parking.
Low-latency graphics bring autonomous vehicles a step closer
Driving simulator software, originally developed for Formula 1, will enable vehicle manufacturers to test Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technologies more accurately than ever before, says maker rFpro. The company believes many of the challenges faced by ADAS developers can be reduced by validating the control system response more comprehensively with a Driver-In-the-Loop (DIL) prior to installation on the vehicle.
